To provide families and individuals a first-hand look at modern food production and the state's farm families, Michigan State University Extension is coordinating eight Breakfast on the Farm events for this summer and fall.
The events are free and open to people of all ages. MSUE works with county Farm Bureaus and farmer-hosts to provide self-guided tours, a delicious breakfast, and a meet-and-greet with local farmers. Held in multiple locations across the state, Breakfast on the Farm events may be great match activities for individuals in your mentoring programs!
Vistors can learn about how food is grown and harvested, how farm animals are raised and cared for, and much more. Breakfast on the Farm events will be held at the following locations:
June 18 - Jeff and Patty Thelen's farm in St. Johns (Clinton County)
June 25 - Raymond and Stutzman Farm in Morenci (Lenawee County)
July 9 - Circle K Farms, Inc. in West Branch (Ogemaw County)
July 16 - Pasch Dairy in Mt. Pleasant (Isabella County)
August 13 - Daybreak Dairy LLC in Zeeland (Ottawa County)
August 20 - S & M Dairy in Harbor Beach (Huron County)
September 17 - Taylor Creek Farm LLC in Pickford (Chippewa County)
September 24 - Benthem Brothers Inc. in McBain (Missaukee county)
Again, there is no cost to attend the event or take the tour, but tickets are required for the breakfast. For more information about Breakfast on the Farm and a list of ticket locations, visit www.breakfastonthefarm.com.
