A series of three potato field days are planned across Michigan in August. Each field day will provide insight into new varieties and include speakers on relevant topics of interest to Michigan potato growers.
• The Montcalm Field Day kicks off the series Aug. 3, with the day’s activities to include the issue identification meeting of the Michigan Potato Industry Commission’s Research Committee, lunch with various industry- and research-based exhibits, followed by a series of research and demonstration discussions centered on fresh and chip processing growers.
• The Presque Isle Field Day is Aug. 29 in the Roger’s City and Posen area. Details for the event are still being organized. The field discussion and focus for the day will be on fresh-market varieties including russet, white, red and yellow. A meal will be provided in conjunction with the event.
• The Upper Peninsula Field Day will conclude the series on Aug. 30 in Cornell, with discussion related to the demonstration plot, which includes fresh-market varieties. Dinner will be provided in conjunction with the event.
Event details will be available online. These programs are a partnership between Michigan State University Extension and the Michigan Potato Industry Commission.
